She did not have so great romantic affairs until her thirties. Because she was still single, she handed over the Saio's work from Idzumi no Himemiko on the 29th day of the 8th month, 706. Ten months later she had to resign from the job and left the Abstinence-palace in Ise on the 15th day of the 6th month, 707, due to Mommu Tenno's death.
After that she got married with Prince Mutobe and gave birth to Princess Kasanuwi, who was one of great court poets.
On the 6th day of the 2nd month of 724, the rank of Ni-hon was confered on her.
30代までこれといって浮いた話もないまま、慶雲3年（706）8月29日、退下した泉皇女の跡を継ぐ形で斎王となる。しかしわずか10ヶ月後の慶雲4年（707）6月15日、文武天皇が崩御したため、退下することになる。
退下後、六人部（むとべ）王の妃となり、偉大な歌人となる笠縫女王を生んだ。
養老8年（724）2月6日、二品に叙せられた。
